Carbon credits are becoming a new source of revenue for farmers and for the little guy.

Farmers are having a rough go of it right now around the world. In Denmark farmers are on strike. In Sri Lanka, they’ve protested and overthrown the current government due to new regulations put on the farmers.Because of the war on Ukraine, Russia has shut off the natural gas supply to Europe and there is going to be a large energy crisis there this winter. All of this has sent gas prices soaring and along with it the fertilizers that are produced from natural gas. Fertilizers have increased 400% in the past six months in price. These are just some of the issues farmers are experiencing worldwide. So any help they can get financially is a benefit.

Farmland takes up 38% of the land surface area worldwide. So it stands to reason that if we are to make an impact in sequestering massive amounts of CO2 worldwide, farmers will be at the forefront of that battle.

Farmers are starting to be the beneficiary of carbon credits and large corporations are now compensating farmers for the amount of CO2 that their lands sequester, especially when they embark on regenerative agriculture practices that increase the amount of CO2 sequestered on their land.

one corporation is paying 526,000 farmers annually

For example, one contract from one corporation is paying 526,000 farmers annually for the GHGs their land is sequestering. CarbonHood is currently in conversations with some other large corporations and farming networks to provide new sources of revenue for farmers worldwide.

While carbon credits don’t make farmers wealthy, these credits DO provide an additional source of revenue for the little guy, for the farmers producing our global food supply.
